What are the benefits of worm castings?
Worm castings are an all natural, organic soil amendment teaming with microbiological life. They can transform the composition of your soil and bring life to your garden by releasing valuable micronutrients and trace minerals to plant roots, increasing soil water retention, and improving soil structure. The microbial ecosystem they contain also acts as a natural pesticide and fungicide. Because worm castings host such a rich network of microbiology, they benefit from air and moisture to thrive and bring their full benefits to your garden.
How is our process different?
Unfortunately, many worm castings on the market today are heated, dried, sealed in airtight containers, and stored for long periods of time before shipping. Many of the mass produced worm castings are produced, stored, and shipped internationally. These practices negate many of the positive benefits that worm castings have to offer.
At Living Castings (produced in the US and shipped within the US) we prioritize the quality and benefits of worm castings by optimizing our processes, packaging, and shipping to produce the highest quality living castings, maintain their integrity, and maximize the benefits for your garden.
- Our castings are never heated, fully dried, or packaged in airtight containers.
- To avoid quality loss from long-term storage, we harvest castings within 48 hours of shipping. Once packaged, worm castings will remain shelf stable for at least six months.
We use a fine sift for finished castings but it's impossible to separate the vermicast to 100% purity. This means that our castings will contain some bonuses like living baby worms and worm cocoons that will continue to enrich your soil as they grow!
